Photo Essay
When walking into the
DUC right before closing, a heartbroken feeling creeps over you as you realize
you will be stuck with sub-par pizza and cold French fries. The DUC at Emory University
is already not the most favorable place to eat, with nearly no options and the
same thing day in and day out. Even freshmen who have been at Emory for less
than a semester realize this unfortunate fact. While the food is adverse during
rush hours and drops a level in quality between meal times, it falls to a whole
new level the hour before it closes, which is especially miserable on the
weekends when this happens at eight o’clock. Closing at eight means that
everything starts shutting down at seven, a time when dinner thrives. Even closing
at ten on the weekdays means there is no spot on Emory that takes meal swipes that
can keep up with the students’ late nights. Here, a series of photographs
displays this grim experience of the Emory student walking through the DUC less than an hour before it shuts down for the night.
